David Byrne saw Carnival and asked me to make a film promoting his album of Brazilian music from the country's repressive regime era. Rendered in ink, charcoal, collage and my 'negative' watercolour technique, the animation echoes the poetry, pain, and sensuality of the lyrics, taking viewers from rainforest to city via football, favelas, and carnival.
